What is Thermally Modified™ Wood?

Thermally Modified™ Wood may be the first truly green lumber resource that performs better and costs less than the alternative wood species and substitute products developed to replace wood. The Cambia thermal modification process uses high heat in a controlled atmosphere to improve the durability of the wood as well as to increase its dimensional stability. We achieve a deep, natural color in our special drying process that provides a rich finished product that looks exotic without hurting the environment.

Class 1 Durability

Both our thermally modified poplar and ash have achieved a Class 1 durability rating according to EU standards through testing completed at the Institut fuer Holztechnologie in Dresden, Germany.

Why should I use Thermally Modified ™ Wood?

Decay Resistant

Cambia thermally-modified wood no longer contains sufficient nutrients to support insect infestation or fungal attack.

Increased Dimensional Stability

Cambia is less susceptible to cupping and warping with changes in relative humidity.

American Made

Cambia is produced from hardwoods that are harvested from North American temperate forests.

Non-Toxic

No toxic chemicals are used in our thermal modification process.

FSC Mix Credit

Cambia is available as FSC Mix Credit.

Enhanced Appearance

The Cambia process gives wood a rich chocolate color that when finished, highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain.
